Summer breeze has made way for cooler days, pumpkin spice lattes, changing leaves and haunted houses galore. Hmm, must mean its October in the D. 555 Gallery and Studios invites you to close out the month with a celebration. On Saturday, Oct 27th, swap out a movie night at home and trade it in for 555’s first annual tribute to October. It’s our blend of a Latin Masquerade Ball, mask making, music and of course art. We are not only pleased to be housed in Southwest Detroit, but also to celebrate its culture and community. Proceeds from this event will go to fundraising for our community arts and education programs. Doors open at 6pm and the event runs until the werewolves come out (or okay, 1am). Trust us, we’ve got your evening covered. Enjoy our exhibit highlighting Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and visit the altars on display. Pick up some art from our shops and vendors and (along with some great refreshments). Experience all of the gallery’s artwork and stop by our mask making workshop with in-house art instructor Liz Sutton. Our mask making class is young people friendly and adult encouraged. Create something fun with your family or make something with your own signature to wear that night. After all, you can’t be the bell of the evening’s masquerade ball without a handmade mask to wear. You’ll need one because the ball kicks off around 9pm that night. Worried your dance moves might make you look like an extra from Thriller? No problem dance lessons from Saron Dier and Monica Puente will get your hips moving at 8pm. Coupled by the smooth beats from DJ Sabor you’ll be well equipped to have a good time.
So don’t delay get your five dollar advance tickets early. Dance, eat, laugh and celebrate with us. Save the scary movie-a-thon for another night. Come share in the art, culture and community fun that 555 is all about.
